Debbie Vass has over 26 years of EMS experience. She began her career as an EMT/Paramedic and has approximately 16 years of management experience in Pinellas County EMS.
Vass is currently the Chief Administrative Officer at Sunstar Paramedics (Paramedic Plus) and is responsible for assisting the Chief Operating Officer to oversee all facets of the organization. This includes directing, coordinating, and monitoring overall system performance to ensure the highest standards of service; employee supervision and support; financial responsibility; and contractual compliance. Vass has overseen the specialty services offered by the organization, which includes Critical Care Transport, All Children’s Transport and Mental Health Transport. She has also monitored the quality of all services provided, ensuring that standards are met or exceeded and promptly direct and coordinate corrective actions when necessary. Vass has been the organization’s Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services coordinator, achieving a total of five accreditations and serves as “Administrator on Call” on a weekly rotation and is responsible for working through issues regarding all aspects of the EMS operation.
Vass taught St. Petersburg College non-credit as a Continuing Medical Education instructor for several years.
Vass has been a Florida Governor Sterling Examiner since 2007 and a Lead Examiner since 2010, currently serving on the Florida Sterling Examination Committee. She presented on topics related to the Malcolm Baldrige criteria at the Florida Sterling Conferences, Pinnacle Conference, and upon request at organizations. In 2008 Vass was the recipient of the 2008 Florida State “EMS Nurse” Award. She is currently the president of the Florida Quality Managers Group.
